 The whip: communicating with a slave!

The whip is the "lingua franca" of slavery. It is universally used and no matter what language a slave speaks, he understands all to well the message of the whip and learns from it.

    Nothing could be more correct and true !

    In an ancient comedy play by Plautus, "Mostellaria" or "The Haunted House", a slave character solemnly states that:
    "IN THE LIFE OF A SLAVE TWO THINGS ARE NEVER MISSING EVERYDAY OF THE YEAR: A CHUNK OF BREAD AND THE KISS OF THE WHIP ON HIS SHOULDERS !"
